Lunch (Luncheon)

n. A meal eaten at midday.

I decided to read a little history about lunch and discovered that in most countries, lunch is a light meal eaten anywhere between noon and 4 PM. It is also sometimes referred to as dinner. What did mom and dad call our meals when we were growing up? Obviously, I remember breakfast, but did we eat lunch or dinner? Wasn't our evening meal always called "supper"?
I assume that lunch may be "on your own" for everyone who's out and about next June. This is known as "out for lunch"...not to be confused with "out to lunch"! If anyone is interested in a great place to eat lunch, Diane and I both highly recommend Barn Happy in Cedar Falls. The food is amazing, and the shop/barn is filled with Iowa products. I know that some of you have eaten there with us on previous visits to WaWa. Check out their website which includes their lunch menu and lists some of the Iowa products they sell:

PS...Diane was the first person today to chat with me about the weather here in WaWa land. Then, I had a weather conversation with strangers at the grocery store, followed up by a phone call from Jaime later today which included, you guessed it, talk about the weather. Three times today...can you top that?

  1. “Kitty change your mind” was probably a favorite Black saying. Mom said it to any of us kids (never to the cats that I recall) when we'd reversed our opinion, opted for Plan B. etc.

Sheryl, did you ever give the answer to your “rat” choices? If so I missed it.

another TTYNT: Temper Tantrums, Yikes! Not Terrific!

Sheryl, what model Mac do you have? We've been thru several. Funny, when we first got a computer, printer too for that matter, it never dawned on us that it might crash or that we might want to move up to something more “with it.” Just yesterday Maryann told me she's noticed some little things wrong with my EMac. No complaints about Robert's G4. Yet.

Weather, one of the 2 most boring topics. It's a neutral or safe subject, unlike politics or religion, so people use it as a conversation filler. Other most boring topic: medical stuff. But the older you get, the more it fills your social talk. I have 2 mealtime rules: no singing at the table, and no medical whatever. This last one is really hard for us oldsters to carry out. —In letters I try never to mention the weather. Can't say the same for medical!

Speaking of weather, I'm still under it, though quite a bit better. A v big frustration: some Peace Corps friends called from Modesto (about 90 min north of here) where they'd been visiting relatives. Wanted to come see us. The timing couldn't have been much worse. I'd just been diagnosed at 2:00 that morning and was in no shape for anything. So disappointing. The Stumps are a wonderful couple and who knows when they'll get out this way again? They live in upstate New York.

    Love to all. TTYNW

  2. Hi Lucille! I look forward to blogging on the weekends because that's when you post your comments. Luckily, my computer (an iMac) "still runneth". I may have to go to blogging once a week if I no longer have a computer at home. Who knows...kitty may change my mind about that. (I do not remember mom ever saying that.) No, I have not given my "rat" answer yet. I will the next time I blog about my habits. Based on your "no singing at the table rule", the kids and I wouldn't last long at your house. We are always singing at the table! The welcome songs at breakfast, holiday and seasonal songs at lunch, and whatever else they think of at snacktime. Usually, it's me doing most of the singing. I realize that I have yet to respond to your comment dated Friday, October 29. I promise that I will...next Friday (November 19).
