Throwdown! with Farm Girl
I am guilty of sometimes often watching the Food Network Channel. One of my favorite shows is Throwdown! with Bobby Flay. Bobby Flay is an American chef, restauratuer, cookbook author, and tv personality. On his show, he challenges another chef, whose specialty is a particular dish, to a cook-off. Sometimes Bobby wins; sometimes he loses. I'll be completely honest...my idea of cooking has become pulling a pan out of the cupboard to reheat whatever my refrigerated "doggy bag" has left over from the previous night's takeout dinner. So here goes..all you great and wonderful cooks out there...next June, I'm going to challenge one of you to a throwdown. Finding an impartial judge may be a little tricky, but I know we can find someone. The prize for the winner? TBD : )

About the Waverly turkey dinner: did Darold make brain Jello? We went to daughter Shari's. Her brother & niece were there too; a nice group of 9 around the table. Shari's a whiz of a cook; says she could make a Thanksgiving meal in her sleep. So I (kitchen-challenged) tease her “People wouldn't even think you & I are related.”
ReplyDeleteWe always go around the table & recite our I'm-thankful-fors. Robert: his caregivers, esp L. (“You'd better say that,” I grinned.) Lu: Our driveway! After living without one for 24 yrs in L.A., it's heaven to be able to park off the street, in front of the house. Leslie: St. Agnes Hospital, where she volunteers; she loves it. Maryann: my family & friends. Wed nite Peter told me he planned to say "I'm thankful that everyone has something to be thankful for.” But then he bashfulled out.
We've had many delicious pizzas but one that always makes a hit with this whole family: pineapple.
Still having a rough time w/ shingles. Whine, whine. Nighttime is when I suffer most. Song I'm writing, to the tune of (guess):
Shingles shot, shingles shot,
Get yours right away . . .
Someone finish it, please. I'll give you credit as collaborator.
Maryann & Peter put up our C'mas tree Saturday. They worked at it earnestly, for hours. It's been years now since I've had to do that job. … Sunday night they helped me make tacos, which Pete described as awesome.
Sheryl: bad news from Kansas Cy. The little boy I told you about, Alma Benjamin's grandson, passed away in mid Nov.
Hello Lucille! Alas, no brain jello for Thanksgiving dinner. I think I heard Darold tell Diane that he plans to make it for "the fam" next June. I am jealous that you have your Christmas tree up! Can Maryann and Peter come over to my house next Saturday? Please? Am so sorry to hear about Alma's grandson. Visiting his website was on my to-do list.
ReplyDeleteHere goes:
Shingles shot, shingles shot,
Get yours right away.
If you do, you'll suffer not
And have a ________ free day!
Fill in the blank with a fitting one syllable word...i.e. pain, rash, care.
Way to rhyme Farm Girl, I couldn't do any better that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteShari can cook in her sleep; I can rhyme in mine! JK : )
