Today is D's dad's birthday. This afternoon, while she was playing with one of our toy telephones, I suggested that she "call" her dad to wish him a happy birthday.
D: Hi Dad. I at school. E's here. Sheryl is, too. Bye.
Me: D, it was nice of you to call your dad, but you forgot to say happy birthday!
D: (lifting the handset again) Hi Dad. Happy birthday dear dad. Bye.
D's dad planned to pick the girls up today, so we practiced her birthday greeting (several times). The plan was for her to say, "Happy birthday, Dad" as soon as he came in the door. However, when he picked her up to give her a hug, they bumped heads, she cried, and the opportunity was gone. Hopefully, sometime this evening, she remembered our plan. : )
