Things That Go Bump in the Night (Day)

On a typical day, I have one or more kids standing on the bench by the kitchen, watching me as I prepare lunch. Today, three of the kids were standing there when one slipped on a cushion and bumped his nose. The bridge of his nose became instantly swollen and ended up black and blue. I called Mom at work to let her know (didn't want her to walk in after work and faint when she saw him). He wasn't really hurt but, man, did he look wicked. When his mom saw him, she laughed. I apologized and said to her, "You should see the other guy!". All in a day's work.

Happy Birthday, Jon!!!!!

  1. Sheryl: do you find that when you have a break (like spring vacation) you plan more than you can get done? Robert & I would always think, for example, “Hooray! Easter week! I’ll do thus & so & everything on my list!” Then suddenly it’d be time to go back to work, w/ only a few items crossed off. This always happened to us, whether it was a 3-day weekend or the 3-month summer break or anything in between.

Bev: what happened to Leah? Why’s her arm in a sling? Our best quick-recovery wishes to her. … Your mentioning Maddie’s coloring reminds me: at the pizza place a lil boy was wearing a T-shirt that said I COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES. —No doubt a takeoff on thinking outside the box. Yes, Maddie certainly sounds like a charmer. & she’s lucky to see her great- & great-great-grandmas often.

A doctor came here last week to re-evaluate Robert for hospice. Conclusion: Robt can stay w/ it. We’re always relieved when that happens (that he’s allowed to stick w/ the program) though we could cope if he “graduated.” Yes, that’s the term they use: when a patient is deemed too healthy for hospice, he “graduates.” —Peter & Maryann are a big help. Example, they’re pros at getting their grandpa ready for bed.

Other nooze from Frez has to do w/ the Pacific storm Bev mentioned. All winter & into spring, we’ve had LOTS of rain. At times I run out of places to dry all the wet cloze & muddy shooz. Oh well, this is better than our usual drought.

Leslie & I are checking out apartments, hoping to move her & Maryann. M will attend Edison, a topnotch high sch right next to the middle sch she’s almost done w/. Both schools are a fur piece from here. Looks like we can get them into a place walking distance from Edison, so as to avoid the breathless early-morning hassle of bus-catching. & cut down on emergency calls to G’ma.

Peter’s learning touch typing, w/ me as his tutor. He’s excited. He has computer class every Monday but it seems they’re expected to master the keyboard on their own. Robert never learned to type & often reminds the younger ones of how valuable a skill that is.

Yours Tr is so out of it: no FaceBook, no Idol watching. Did you read about a gal who gave up FaceBk for Lent? One of M’s friends, though not Catholic, gave up meat for Lent, so gave M her cheeseburger at MacDonald’s Sunday. M was proud to tell us she sold $300’ worth of Girl Scout cookies that day. She’s not a Scout but enjoyed helping.

Sheryl: At the library Leslie got me a copy of “Morning Glory,” autographed by LaVyrle Spencer! How the lib. happened to have one signed by her I don’t know. Beautiful Palmer-method penmanship: I’ll Xerox it for you. The book is tremendously enjoyable. BTW, the book’s town librarian, Miss Beasley, hates it when people wet their thumb to turn pages. Remember that? =)

Sheryl & Jenn & your morning alarms: I envy you that you need them. I’m such a terrible sleeper, always have been, that I can hardly ever keep snoozing till my clock radio sounds off. Almost always get up & groggily shut off the alarm before it can do its job.

Wendy, I’m glad that Trevor quit his roofing job. The husband of one of my Peace Corps friends fell from their roof ONTO HIS HEAD and has had a long, difficult recovery.

    Love to all from Frez

  2. Owly Man's great great Aunt Lillie from Lodi, CA used to call baby jenn, "a little princess". Well, today she got her tiara and sash and a dozen red roses, when chosen Ms Wheelchair Ia. The event took place in Iowa City. She was one of four candidates sponsored by *People For Quality Care, part of VGM, a business in Waterloo. You can learn more about them (PFQC) by using that title *.com. She has two speeches coming up (that they know of so far), details to be sent to her. She will be in the U of I Homecoming parade, will take part in the Heartland Conference through VGM and will go to Grand Rapids, Michigan in August to take part in Ms Wheelchair USA. Now she has to choose a platform and write another good speech, they say she can be as active attending events and making speeches as she wants to be. She has to raise the $ to go to Michigan, doesn't seem to think that will be a problem. Was so glad to read Wendy, Butrfly Lady, and Lu's comments!

  5. Hi Lucille! It was great to hear from you...you always have such interesting news to share. Re. breaks...yes, I always plan to accomplish much more than I actually do...and...I'm really hard on myself for not getting everything done. A recent example...I have four doors that need to be painted. I had planned to paint at least three during Spring Break. How many did I get painted? Zero.
Re. Morning Glory...I remember the town library and Will's visits, but I'd forgotten about Miss Beasley and the page turning. Have a wonderful week. Hi to everyone in your family!
