A relatively quiet day here...just E, K, me, and Ed. The girls were able to entertain themselves for awhile, so I actually got some laundry and cleaning done. I even emptied a box (see box count). Both girls took two hour naps...what a treat for me! E decorated her valentine cookies. She gladly chose the sprinkle colors but wanted me to do all of the work. (I'd change my moniker from
Farm Girl to
Little Red Hen, but, at the end of this tale, she walked away with the food!)
Maryann kindly typed Bernice’s obituary for me. Lucy had written in Jan. that Bernice had been in the hospital, had a growth removed, then a week later was back in the hosp. Until I got Lucy’s letter yesterday I didn’t know this: “She had cancer & after they removed a growth on her kidney, it really spread. Then she got pneumonia. … I think she looked like Mom when she died. Bernice suffered for 39 years, but she never complained.”
ReplyDeleteNotice there’s not a word in the obit about her paralysis. Alma said she had the use of one little finger only. Bernice was a trooper who stayed cheerful. She talked to me about how as a kid she enjoyed fun times w/ Dave & Merv, who were close to her age.
Yes, I hope to come to the reunion. Robt says I should go, but it’s not easy to leave him. Since I took Maryann along for a week at the time of Jaime’s wedding, I’d like to bring Peter this time. I definitely want to be there when Karel & Nancy are there. All of us gathering at the Barn on the Bluff would be swell.
Sheryl, you’re smart for having 1 child at a time do their decorating. At Maryann’s 4th b’day party we had frosted cupcakes & a choice of 4 kinds of sprinkles which Robt had found at the store. Maybe those lil ones didn’t understand the word CHOICE, but most of ’em loaded on all 4 kinds. More sprinkles than frosting!
Wow! I’m happy for Derek. And for Amanda: she picked a fantastic guy. (Don’t tell them I said this, but did she lead him down the bridle path or bridal path?)
Bev, u & I are alike. I took a bad fall Thurs. night. Playing soccer on the driveway w/ Peter, somehow I lost my footing & fell flat on my back. Ouch! Robt insists I should go get X-rays, but I stubbornly reply, “Maybe Feb. 31.” Luckily Maryann was spending the night here. Both kids became little ER workers. On her own M went to the medicine chest & brought a selection of pain pills, including baby aspirin. On his own P dug into a closet & brought me canes from when Robt first became disabled, in ’06.
Calif doesn’t have many hogs but LOTS of cattle. So I’ll say MOOchas gracias to the Waters & Wavers & Denverites for the Valentine p. card. I heart you all!
Well, the third thing happened, but turned out to be not so bad as did the other two. Owly man was working on the computer very late last night and the monitor went kafooey! Luckily a friend of ours, who retired from Wart and was/is a computer geek, had an old monitor just like ours, so we are up and running again! Can you beat that? Jenn had Parkinson's support group at 10 this morning, workout with trainer at 12, and lunch with a friend in Waterloo at 2. Darold went to BB games 2-4 at Wart and then with an old neighbor to CF to W-SR tourney BB game. I am going to get the wash done up and start packing. Lu and Butrfly lady take care of yourselves and go to the doctor if you don't get better! Hi, Farm Girl, you take care, too and get some rest this week-end.
ReplyDeleteLucile...Oh, no...you fell, too! Are you on the mend? I can't even think about falling (or anything similar)...what would my four families do? Thanks to Maryann for typing Bernice's obituary for us to read. You are so lucky that M is a whizz with the computer. Hope that you and Peter can come for sure in June. Of course, we wish the ENTIRE Van Ornam group could make it but know how difficult that would be. I don't think any of us will have our entire family here this summer.) As for Derek...it may just very well be the "Bridle Path". In every phone conversation, he has "Billy" stories to tell!
ReplyDeleteDiane, You really lucked out with your computer. I have a feeling that when mine's gone, it's going to be gone. Sounds like you all have a very busy weekend!
