I'm a fan of blizzards. Both kinds. The kind that we're having right now for two reasons:
1) I don't have to drive out on the highway, and 2) I have the day off (actually, tomorrow will make two days off). I'm also a big fan of Dairy Queen Blizzards, my favorite being the Strawberry CheeseQuake. Ironically, the Waterloo Dairy Queens, closed for the "winter" months, are reopening this week. If you are in Iowa next June, I'll be happy to go to the DQ with you. If you're lucky, I might even treat you to a Blizzard (the Dairy Queen kind)! : )
Hi! Sorry to hear that you are getting in on the much publicized blizzard that is happening in so many states. How much snow have you had? We only have had a few inches lately, but below zero temps and wind chills. Supposed to warm up for a few days to the 20's above and then right back down soon after that with some snow forecast. My favorite blizzard is Pecan Cluster and I would be happy to enjoy a trip to the DQ in June.
ReplyDeleteHi Bev! I heard that we only got about 5 inches of snow...about an hour south of here they got a foot and more! (Glad I'm not stuck in Chicago...they got about 24 inches!) It has been so windy, and tomorrow it's supposed to get really cold. I guess winter's not quite done with us yet. Pecan Cluster...I've never tried it, but it sounds delicious!!! Maybe I'll dig myself out (my driveway's drifted shut) and go get one!!!~ Have a great day! : )
ReplyDeleteBev, you might be able to sweet-talk the Barn on the Bluff owner into a bargain rate. Hotels, resorts, cruise ships, etc. would rather have a full house than empty rooms, even if they have to sacrifice some profit. I once got a swell deal at a bed-& b’fast by calling at an opportune time. She had no one booked for the weekend so gladly gave us the buy-one-night-get-one-free that I requested (in sugary tones). Just be ready with some compliments (“I saw your website and it looks so perfect for us!” … “You did the video for my niece Jaime’s wedding, and it was COOL.”) Or make promises (“Before we leave we’ll be glad to change the linens, clean the kitchen, or whatever would help you out.”) Also, talk up your family. (“They’re all solid citizens, conscientious, neat & clean, they’ll be some of the least troublesome guests you could ask for.”) You can catch lots of flies w/ honey.
ReplyDeleteJan. 27 revisited: Sheryl, a routine is more comfortable for both you & the kids. Time & again I heard from both parents & fellow educators that kids felt at ease in my room because my classes were structured.
Yesterday I called Marilyn. Ed had told me that Tim spent some time with M. “getting her financial house in order” (Ed’s words) but she cried & told me that she doesn’t understand the banking system. What about income tax, I asked. She’s gonna have “a businessman downtown” go through her papers to make sure she has everything needed, then she’ll go to a tax person.
Mom told me that the reason Bertha Chicoine spent so many months in the hospital after Mr. C. died was that B. was afraid. I thought, In a small town like Anthon? What’s to be afraid of? But now I understand: she probably feared the bills, the red tape, all the financial pitfalls …
Our DQ opens tomorrow, my favorite blizzards are Oreo Mint or Banana Split (I always have to remind them to drain the fruits or the blizzard turns out like soup)! Jenn and I are glad that they have gone to a smaller size, also. I like the mocha moolatte best. Would the rest of us be butting in if we stayed at The Barn at the same time, Farm Girl? Lu, you are my favorite author. You share so much information in such an interesting way! Take care, all!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lucille! The next time I want a deal on a hotel room, I'm going to call you for advice!!! Hope you are having a great week! : )
ReplyDeleteHi Diane! Mini Blizzards? I love them! I love them so much that I always order them four at a time!! Ha ha! : )
