Today my three "big" kids played dress-up. D started out as a jack-o-lantern but then changed into a mail carrier. K went from being a ballerina to a bride and then finally to the Statue of Liberty. Tyler? He decided that he liked being a chef. Every time I asked him if he wanted to take his apron off he said, "Not yet".
I remember dress-up of a different kind when we were younger. It was when we would get a box of hand me down clothes from cousins. We 3 girls would try on and try on to see what would fit and what might need a ruffle added on or a strip of other material added into the skirt to lengthen it. We were thrilled, at least I was because they were different from the hand me down -- hand me downs from my 2 older sisters. Something new to wear. Those were the days!
ReplyDeleteDave, your e-mail wasn’t unexciting at all. Nancy, you got a fine tribute from your boss. And well-deserved, I’m sure! … It’s neat that Amy & Marco will have a house. I’ve never had the privilege of living in a brand-new home, one never previously occupied. Unless you count the nipa hut that was built just for my co-Peace Corps assignee & me in Bayambang, Pangasinan.
ReplyDeleteD & N: call us when the baby arrives. Is Amy about ready to take a leave from work? Do they have a sub lined up?
In her Mitford books (introduced to me by Bev) Jan Karon calls it the HANDY drawer, but ours, like most people’s, is the JUNK dr. We organize it every so often, and it stays that way —for a day or 2. Besides the usual “office supplies” ours has extra garage-door openers. Have to be careful when I pick those up. And Peter’s dramamine tablets, convenient for a last-minute grab as we start off on a trip.
How to calibrate a thermometer. Hmm. Old-fashioned mercury type? Fahrenheit or centigrade? Does the process involve ice water & boiling water? —I know how to diagram a sentence; does that count?
—No, I haven’t been to the Frank Lloyd Wright place in Quasqueton. Last Iowa trip, 2004, it was on my list of must-sees. But the only day I could work it in was a Monday, & worse luck, they were closed Mondays. So maybe this June, I hope!
Dave is a Frank Lloyd Wright fan. Ask me how I know.
Hi Diane! I wonder if "today's kids" know what hand me downs are???!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lucille! You are right about calibrating a thermometer...we were told about the "ice method" and the "boiling water" method...we were told that the ice method is easier (too hard to work with boiling water).
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that Dave is a Frank Lloyd Wright fan?
We have something in common (that I bet you didn't know)...I know how to diagram sentences, too! In fact, I LOVE diagramming sentences. Do you?
