Homework

I'm enrolled in a four week child care class. The class involves homework... I don't remember the last time I had homework (probably when I was in college).

  1. Mom and I are safe and sound in Philadelphia! Great trip and exciting meetings! Mom gets to do whatever she wants! Hope everyone is having a good week!

  2. Bev, I was gonna give you a shout-out since we’d gone for several days without ND news. Sorry to hear the reason, but I hope the Wellbutrin is taking hold. Love you a lot and can’t wait to see you (& everyone) in June.

Wendy: Peter has tried both kinds of roller skates but, like you, prefers the old-fashioned “4 square” kind. Our gr&daughters like rollerblades better.

Sheryl: Errands are a drag but I mind them less when I can park the car in one place & go to several stores. 2 miles from here is a cluster of strip malls where I can shop at Rite-aid, Walgreens, a supermarket, & go to the library. Oh yes, get ga$ too.

Saturday a.m. was when I needed to be holding a whimpering little tyke with another one fussing about the need to go potty. Reason: our washer quit! But, since I lacked any lil-kid background noise, Sears said they couldn’t come out till Mon. The machine was full of laundry, including Maryann’s p.e. clothes, which of course she’d need Monday. So I fished everything out of the soapy water, stuffed it in a giant plastic trash can, & took it to a laundromat. —Good news Mon. a.m.: the Sears guy said it was just a broken striker, not my fault, an easy fix.

It took lots of trips, appointments, & paperwork, but it’s a go: Leslie will move during Easter vacation. Next week! The new apt. is 3 blocks from Maryann’s middle sch. and a bit farther, but very walkable, from what will be her high sch. —As usual Peter spent the weekend with his mom & she says he was super-helpful with packing.

Hand-me-downs: all the Fresno grands have worn their share, also plenty of duds from thrift stores. As fast as they outgrow stuff, it doesn’t make sense to pay dept-store prices. Only when she turned 14 did Maryann start complaining about “never having anything new.” So one of her Christmas gifts was a trip to Penney’s & Macy’s to shop for jeans etc. ON SALE. Just about everything I wore at my Peace Corps reunion was from Goodwill, which carries many brand-new items! Are Goodwill clothes allowed at the Grant reunion? JK.

Waverly gals: glad to know you had a safe trip. How do you send e’s from there, Jenn? Do you have wi-fi in your room? Or can you e-mail from your cell phone? All this modern stuff is beyond me. Robert too! We’re like babes in the woods.

  3. Wi Fi in the room :) Mom had "the best turkey sandwich" - per Sheryl's recommendation. I had falafel, tabboleh, and hummus for lunch and sushi for supper...and we are both having cookies for dessert :)

  5. Hi Lucille! I'm sorry to hear about your washer. I don't know how many times I've traipsed to the laundromat with a heavy basket full of sopping wet clothes. Talk about back strain! Congrats to Leslie and the kids on their new apartment. It's great that you found something so close to M's schools!
PS...YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING YOU WANT IN JUNE...LUCKY FOR YOU, IT'S A "COME AS YOU ARE" REUNION!!!!! : )
