Today, D and Tyler spent some time playing with our magnetic alphabet letters. Tyler searched for all of the O's (his favorite letter). Whenever he found a blue O, he was pretty psyched since blue is his favorite color. D was looking for all of the M's. She called the capital M's "the big M's"; D and Ty called the little m's "the baby m's". I was observing all of this when D spotted a letter still in the box and said, "Tyler, an O". He took one look and replied, "That's a Q." I had no idea that he knew what a Q looks like!
Pop Quiz: Who knows what it means to "Mind your P's and Q's"?
I've read that it's from the days of handset printing. All the a's were kept in their little compartment, the b's in theirs, etc. It was easy to accidentally toss a p into the qs' place & vice versa.
ReplyDeleteHi Lucille! You are correct! However, that is just one of several theories. I plan to write about these theories tomorrow (Thursday) night. Stay tuned! : )
ReplyDeleteHow exciting, a new little girl in the family. Welcome, Sofia! We are hoping that all is going well with new mom and dad and grandpa and grandma, or will Dave and Nancy choose an alternate name as did Farm Girl, or maybe Sofia will choose one for you! As for Idol, I would not even try to make a guess as to a winner after the performances tonite. Have a good rest of the week, everybody!
ReplyDeleteJenn had an appt at the wound clinic this AM and we had time before she had to be back at work so we of course stopped at Farm Girls. While there, the kids were at the play-do table and Ty said, "Let's sing Old McDonald, friends. After several animals, we added that D and K and E and Ty lived on his farm and when we finished that, Ty suggested that MyMy and D and J had to be in the song, too. What a darling little boy, he is!!!!!!! His mom calls him the Entertainer.
ReplyDeleteNow that I think about it, Sheryl, remember when you used to make those nifty memory boxes? Like the one you did for Mom & Dad with 4 baby dolls in pink diapers & 3 in blue? Wasn't that a printer's case?
ReplyDeleteNother comment. Having already picked up on the letter Q—and no doubt a whole lot more knowledge already firmly in place in his handsome little head—Tyler's going to be SO-O-O-O ready for school.
Hi Diane! Oh, yes, he's an entertainer all right. He knows exactly when to turn on the charm. Thanks again to you and Jenn for stopping by to entertain us! : )
ReplyDeleteHi Lucille! The boxes that I used for the "memory boxes" were called just that...memory boxes. At one time, I did have two printer's drawers that hung on my walls...I still have the miniatures that were in them.
ReplyDeleteJaime and I are already worried about Tyler and school...not that he won't be ready for school, but that the school won't be ready for him. Look out...Here comes trouble!!!! (We're hoping that his teachers are all blessed with a good sense of humor.)
