Two Hippos and a Goat

D wouldn't take her nap today until we'd located two plastic hippos that she'd played with this morning. And even though he already had eleven items in his bed (including a plastic plate), Ty insisted that I find "the goat" (also plastic) so he could sleep with it. Kids think of the craziest things...

  1. Trax? Bev, please clue me in. If it has to do with Lucas, I know it’s a good thing.

Wendy Lu: nice to hear from you. Please chime in more often. The more the merrier, right, Sheryl?

It’s awful to hear that so many of you have been sick. Us, too: Robert, Peter, & I all got the flu in spite of flu shots. I won the prize for the worst case. Ugh. —Pete still has perfect attendance at school, & is so proud of that.

Our Disneyland trip: no traffic problems either going or coming. Robert drove all the way, both ways, and did a beautiful job, just as if he did it every day. Didn’t even have to consult a map or ask directions.

My big laugh last week. Setting: a Disneyland restroom.
“Woman on the floor!” is what Robert hollers as I wheel him into men’s rooms.
“Don’t worry, you guys,” is what I add. “I’m just here to help my husband. I’m totally ignoring all of you.”
“I’ve heard that one before!” was a reply called out by a guy over at the side. (Don’t ask me what the guy was doing; true to my word, I was ignoring him.)

Ed Black called the night before we left for Anaheim. He said many remarked (at the time of the funeral) about how closely Marty Black resembles his dad, Dale. Same thing is true in Fred’s family. It’s Norman, right, that’s a copy of Fred?

Didja know that Ed’s brother Gene lives in Wasilla, Alaska, Palin’s town? I should’ve asked Ed whether Gene is pals with Palins.

Sheryl, if you need a 2nd job, why don’t you write jingles for commercials? I sang “our” shingles ditty to my doctor the other day. I’ve sung it over the phone & in person to ever so many people. Everyone likes it. … Our neighbor is #50 on the waiting list at Walgreens. She says they get in only enough vaccine for 10 people at a time.

Next time: books. Love to all

  2. Good to hear from you, Lu. Have wondered how your Disneyland trip went. Don't they have "family BR's in CA? Great that Robert feels well enough to drive. Did he have to drive in a lot of heavy traffic?
Still not feeling well. Had Madison overnight last night. Clay has men's night out on Thursday's, so he wasn't home. She was so good and slept until 8 this morning. Clay called before I took her to the sitter and the first thing she said when I gave her the phone was: " I need help!" She was trying to put her boots on and she did need help.
In ND, in order to get a shingles shot, you have to have a prescription from your Dr. and it has to be ordered. Takes about 2 weeks to get it. Have you Iowans asked about it?
To fill Lu in, Lucas and Penny have opened a bar here in town. Since it is right next to the RR tracks, they named it Trax. They have a very large video screen on one wall where they play music videos of all genres, a dance floor (the only one in town), and feature various nights of entertainments. This month is midget wrestling; next month is a Super Bowl party; In March, they will be the final stop for the "Running of the Green" (a St. Pat's Day event that draws hundreds of people who dress up in crazy green outfits and spend money on booze.) This could be the biggest event of the year for them. They serve pizza and a wide asst. of beer and drinks. Grandma Leah is upset with all of this, but Lucas saw the opportunity and grabbed it. They are only open Thurs., Fri., and Sat. nites and have been quite successful. They rent the building from a businessman from Fargo who has other things going here in town. The former people who rented the building just closed the doors one night and walked out, so Lucas didn't have to buy tables, chairs, glassware, etc. Penny is also involved in a lot of business decisions and is a server. They both still work 40 hrs. at Noridian, so they are both super busy. Keeping Madison one night a week is my way of helping out. When she woke up this morning, she put her head next to mine on my pillow and said, "Hi, Grandma Bev, it's time to wake up." and gave me a kiss. Priceless!!!

  3. Hi Lucille! Glad to hear that your trip to Disney went well. Do Maryann and Peter have favorite rides? We have learned to take advantage of the Flex Passes/Fast Passes to spend more time at the park(s) and to avoid the long lines. We also used these at Universal Studios in Florida and were able to see several attractions more than once. Haven't been there for a long time, but I look forward to taking Ty there some day. I enjoyed your "Men's Restroom" story. You've probably already heard this one, but maybe others haven't. A few years ago, Jaime and I were having dinner at the Amanas. I went into the restroom (women's, not men's) and my cell phone rang. Cell phones were fairly new then...not many people carried them. It was Aaron, looking for Jaime. When I hung up, I said to the woman who was staring at me, "It was my son-in-law". Her serious response? "He shouldn't be in here!" Have a great day!

  4. Hi Bev! It looks like we're in on the "Great Snowfall", too. Up to five inches are forecast for today. I'm already wondering if:
    a) there will be a late start tomorrow, and/or
    b) if my snow removal guy will have the driveway cleared in time for families tomorrow morning.
Congrats to Lucas and Penny for their new venture. It sounds like they've got a lot planned! Hopefully, Penny won't be working so much that she can't take time to enjoy the dance floor...I know that she loves to dance! Your Madison stories are so cute. Is there a possibility that she will be coming to Iowa next summer? I'm sure that it'd be difficult for Penny and Lucas to get away...they are so busy! Hope you have a snow-free week! TTYL
