Back to next summer...I'd like to suggest a day trip to the Amana Colonies. The Amanas, approximately 1 1/2 hours from Waterloo, have something for everyone. When A, J, and D were little, we made a day trip to the Amanas at least twice a year and always had a good time. There, in addition to many other things, you can find GREAT food and shopping. In tomorrow's post, I'll talk about my favorite restaurant. If you want more info about the Amana Colonies you can visit their website:

Happy Birthday, Lane!!!
Jenn and I had a cold and wintery drive to Des Moines on Friday. There were flurries and the semis caused minor white-outs when passing. Jenn visited with an OT acquaintance/friend and a wheelchair vendor. They are both very knowledgeable of Medicare's requirements, they took measurements, listened to Jenn's wants/needs, and took lots of notes. The vendor will have a demo chair for Jenn in Waverly within 2 weeks and the OT will start writing the letter for Medicare. Time will tell, but we were both impressed with them. We then went to the motel to unpack, Jenn went into the room and I started to unload the car when Jenn came to tell me to stop unloading because she couldn't get through the bathroom door. The manager called the Holiday Inn Express and got us a room at the same low rate and it was closer to her meeting on Sat. We got settled there, I ordered in pizza. Jenn went to a gourmet restaurant with friends and had a great meal and conversation. While getting ready for the night, Jenn discovered the stool lid was loose it popped a "peg" and then came off all together. Oh well, just another one of those happenings! She had an IOTA meeting Sat. morning 9-12 and then we headed home with no other incidents. The interstate was clear and no flurries. Neither of us slept well on Fri nite so we made up for it by sleeping until well after noon, today. Hope all are well, the nwspaper said the worst of the flu season in the next few weeks, Farm Girl?
ReplyDeleteJenn: Pls give details abt what kind of chair. When I have time I'll tell you our happy wheelchair story from Disneyland. This time no bathroom involved. = )
ReplyDeleteSheryl, It's great that you're teaching manners to those lil ones. Remember how Mom used to talk about having the “rough edges” taken off? That's what you're doing. In most cases the parents are probably too busy/overwhelmed to spend much time on social graces like “Yes, please.”
Hi Diane! Glad to hear that you and Jenn made it safely to and from Des Moines. Aaron said that the trip he made to DM a couple of weeks ago was one of the worst ones he's taken (weather-wise). We're going on two healthy weeks here, so no more flu for us please and thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Lucille! Yes, I too, would like to hear more about Jenn's chair.
ReplyDeleteOne of my toy Fisher-Price school buses has a toy wheel chair that rolls out of the back of the bus...Tyler calls it "Jenn's chair". I don't think I would survive a day here without my constant manners reminders. Otherwise, the twos, with their emerging language skills, would sound like they were barking orders at me...nonstop...all day long! Thank goodness for the ability to smooth out those rough edges! : )
Wheelchair info attached...not sure what color yet :) the demo is black but I can always decorate it! It's still a folding chair but should be a little lighter.
