Early To Bed...

Hi everyone! Would you believe that I'm getting ready to go to bed? (I rarely go to bed before 11 or 12). Need to get my "beauty sleep"...all six kids will be here tomorrow! Thanks to Jenn and Diane for stopping in with soup, bread, and other goodies and for reading to Ty and putting on a fantastic puppet show, to Jaime for running my errands and for doing my laundry tonight, and to Ty for providing dinner entertainment!
PS...Thanks for all your great comments. I will write back soon!

  1. Out of all the fine Black family, Dale was one of our most remarkable cousins. He was a self-taught electrician, carpenter, mechanic, expert at whatever he touched. Constantly planning new projects. Yet in spite of his vast skills, he was utterly down-to-earth. He had surgery for cancer early this year, just before Marilyn had her stroke, but the last I heard (from Lucy Crilly) he was doing okay. It's a shattering loss. That old saying certainly applies here: after they made Dale they broke the mold. All the ways he remodeled and improved their house: jaw-dropping. Also, he was a dear and generous son-in-law to the Liebolds. He & Marilyn had an ideal marriage, with rarely or never a sharp word exchanged. I too wish so much that I could be there now and listen to what will surely be many heartfelt tributes.

Are we going to send flowers? If so, I'm offering to be in charge. I can't remember what we did for LaVonne.

Ed would welcome your call, I'm sure. (712) 366-9503. We talked a long time this a.m. and he filled me in on much more than I can list here. Bad news, his new wife Dody has a lung disease, though he says she's doing all right at present.

  2. Hi Lucille! I agree...Dale Black is one of a kind. The best part of being me as a kid was definitely growing up on a farm and the many Sunday afternoon visits that Mom, Dad, and I made to the Black and Grant family homes. Best summer memories? The Woodbury County Fair and the annual Black Family picnic. If we decide to send flowers, count me in. Just let me know how much I owe.

  3. Count me in on the plant/flowers, too, thanks for doing it, Lu! Let us know how much we owe. Does anyone know when and where the funeral will be held, we have not had any notification other than Bev's message.

  4. Sorry I didn't forward the email that I got from Marilyn to everyone, but the funeral is today at 10:30 at the Congregational Church in Dunlap. If flowers have no longer been sent, I would suggest a monetary memorial. What do the rest of you think? The last time we were at Dale and Marilyn's (Clay & I and D, D, and JD), Dale had arranged for us to meet for dinner with Aunt Dorothy and Tim Black was there, too. Had a wonderful visit and dinner. Memories!
