Dolls, Dolls, Dolls

Is it just me, or do the Christmas memories of the Grant girls revolve around a recurring theme? I also remember the dolls and the doll clothes, especially the year I received a black patent leather suitcase full of Barbie clothes. However, I don't remember if mom made all of those clothes herself...Bev, did you do some of the sewing? Also the doll furniture... a high chair and a doll bed. And a "big" doll (which I still have). Looking back, I now realize how much Dad and Mom did with very little money. They always made sure that Christmas was a special day.

  1. There are three Christmas memories I want to share. They happened quite a few years apart.

The first one is when I was about five. I was living at my Aunt Shari's house at the time. I got great presents compared to what I normally got for Christmas or any other time. That's why it is memorable. My cousins, my aunt Shari, and my uncle Hose took turns opening our presents.

The second memory is when I was 11. It was memorable for the same reason. A nice family gave things to my brother, my mom, and me. Some of the gifs I still use today!

The third memory is when I was 12. The same thing happened that year. A nice family gave us nice gifts.

Now I'm 14, and I still only get really good gifts from people that aren't in my immediate family, not even on my birthday.

  2. Yes, Sheryl, I remember sewing a shoebox full of Barbie clothes for you and don't remember if Mom made any that year or not. BUT, I do remember telling Mom that sewing Barbie clothes was more work than sewing regular size clothes for myself and/or my girls. Don't think I ever sewed that many doll clothes for my own girls, so you were SPECIAL, Sheryl. How sweet, Maryann, that you shared your Christmas memories with us.

  3. Hi Maryann! Thanks for sharing some of your Christmas memories. I remember being a teenager and being SO excited to have a school break...a chance to do things with my friends, read books, etc. This year in Waterloo, the school kids have two whole school weeks off! How much of a holiday break will you get? Planning to do anything special during that time??? PWB : )

  4. Bev...I thought that you did some sewing, but I didn't realize that you possibly did ALL of it that year! I can believe that sewing Barbie clothes is difficult, but then all sewing is hard for me. The only thing that I can do in the sewing department is sew on a button. Mom got SO frustrated with me when she tried to teach me how to sew!
