When you're a kid, so many things seem magical. I remember every Christmas Eve in this way. We always went to church and, after the service, it was often snowing. The Christmas Eve snow was different than snow at other times; it covered everything with a blanket of sparkly glitter. And..the little brown lunch bags we were given as we left the church...I think I remember an apple, a popcorn ball, and a candy cane. Funny how things that are so simple and basic leave lasting impressions.
Happy 10th birthday, Arianna and Brianna!
I remember those Christmas Eves also, just the way you described them Farm Girl and I remember driving around Anthon to look at the Christmas decorations afterward.
ReplyDeleteThe house I remember was the one on the hill on the west side of town...you know the one!!
ReplyDeleteIt was a Hamann or a Peterson. I also remember Charlie Lyon's house and Don Gothier's house. We drive around Waverly at Christmas to view the sights. Our house is the only stand-out on the street with 3 lighted trees that Owly man made and 2 animated-lighted deer on the yard and a lighted angel on the porch. Owly man brought the deer and angel home from Streeter, they used to illuminate his parents yard. Also, the house is outlined with lights and a lighted wreath hangs by the door. How are you feeling today, Farm Girl? Hopefully better, you sounded terrible yesterday!
ReplyDeleteAren't you festive!!! For years, I paid $$$ to a company to deck my house in lights. Last year, I decided to save myself the $$$, so now I have the DARKEST house on the street. : ( When A, J, and D were little, we always spent a couple of evenings driving around to check out the Christmas lights. We even drove up to 40 miles away to see them. As a kid (well, maybe a high schooler), I remember viewing the lights while visiting the Van Ornams in L.A. Christmas lights and no snow? What a concept!!!
ReplyDeletePS...No, I'm still not feeling better. : (
ReplyDeleteLuckily, no kids tomorrow!
It took me ALL day to clean THREE rooms but, boy, are they clean!!!
ReplyDeleteOur house looks very festive, too, with 2 Christmas trees (3 with Maddie's Mickey Mouse tree)2 Christmas trees outside along with all of the blue lights framing the house as well as a lighted wreath. Took Clay a while to get them all up, but glad that's done. I remember exactly what you two are remembering along with the Christmas programs in country school and at Anthon High. Lots of baking and goodies. I agree, Farm Girl, with your favorite goodies. Not to forget CHOCOLATE!!!! Hope you're feeling better today.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention, speaking of sparkling snow, we got 8 inches last Wednesday and a forecast of another 9 today and tonight. Yuck!! And wind!!
ReplyDeleteMore snow...Are you kidding?
ReplyDeleteNo, I wasn't kidding. We got another 6 inches for a grand total so far this 'winter; which only began today; of 42 inches so far. The next storm system is going south of us, thank you, God. I'm thankful that we aren't gettin rain like CA, because you can push snow out of the way, but water just stays put, if you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteLucas gave us tickets to see Lorie Line last night at the college. It was amazing and such a good crowd in spite of all the snow. A woncerful Christmas show with little kids involved in the 12 Days of Christmas. So cute.
Sounds like you had the flu similar to what I always get, Farm Girl. Hope you're feeling much better by now and ready for your trip. Have a wonderful time and get some rest, too.
I feel so bad that Lu has had to suffer so long with the shingles. Can almost feel the burning and itching, etc, Get better soon.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONG, AND SAFE TRAVEL!
FORTY-TWO INCHES OF SNOW...UNBELIEVABLE!!! For me, that amount translates into $400 worth of snow removal. No, thank you!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to see Lorie Line. I think she's had concerts here, also.
I'm done with the flu...finally.
