Christmas with Wartburg

Today, I had the pleasure of accompanying the D Wolffs to Christmas with Wartburg, a holiday tradition that started 65 years ago. The concert was amazing and professionally done. The highlight for me was O Holy Night, sung by Simon Estes, the Wartburg Choir, a children's choir, and accompanied by the Wartburg orchestra. Wow! The dinner, as always, was excellent, too. I couldn't eat all of it; it was especially disappointing to not be able to finish the red velvet cheesecake with cream cheese frosting! Thanks, Wolffs for inviting me again this year. And, thanks for giving me a ride to the Durango (so I didn't have to walk in six inch heels...in the dark...and the cold...wearing no coat). As you can tell, I'm being stubborn about accepting the winter-like weather that has arrived! A little trivia question: How many years has the D Wolff family attended Christmas with Wartburg? (I don't know the answer, but I'm going to guess over 30. D, D, and J...am I close?)

  1. The answer is more like over 40, the best years were when the kids were involved in it. My favorite picture of Jenn was taken while singing in the front row of the choir. wearing a red gown, during CwW. Jon was in the band 1st year and the choir (front row) the other three. I'm so glad we get to share it with Farm Girl.

  2. Amazing...I imagine there aren't too many others who've attended 40+ years! CwW is a terrific way to celebrate "The Season"!

  3. Where does the time go? I remember coming to Waverly to witness some of the performances that Jenn and Jon were in. Could that have been that long ago?? In response to the chalk line around the Christmas tree, I remember it well. How hard it was to have to stand there and look and not touch. We babysat Madison yesterday for a few hours and had the "pleasure" of telling her that when she saw all of the Christmas decorations for the first time. So hard to look without touching. She was very naughty and had several timeouts, even one from Papa. But she is so darned cute, that it is hard to stay upset with her for very long. Memories of Christmases past: Finding the key to the attic when Mom and Dad were gone and getting caught riding my new bike when they got home! Mom's fudge in the green glass bowl on the dining room table, Christmas programs at the Methodist Church from the time I was little till I was in MYF, and the country school programs where we had a curtain on a rope that was drawn between performances and all the Christmas songs and poems we learned, Coming home to Anthon after we were married with our two little girls and having Mom and Dad become Grandparents at Christmastime. More later.

  4. Hi Bev! Thanks for sharing your memories! I have memories of searching through the attic, too, although mine are of the house east of town (and I think that yours are of the house west). Am glad that you're able to spend time with Madison. We are in the midst of a blizzard this weekend, and I haven't seen Tyler since Friday. Jaime says he has had fun watching the snow blow around!
