We don’t know which airport is C/D — ? Clinton-Davenport?
1946 or 7. My nomination for most long-lasting, beneficial gift. My nail-biting habit was well established, but Bev gave me clear nail polish for Christmas. I dabbed on a coat, admired it, but thought “This would look even nicer if I let my nails grow.” So I quit the nibbling! I wish all bad habits were as easy to shake. Bev, thank you for a good deed indeed.
Much of the time while I was in the Philippines I was mighty homesick. The 2nd Christmas, 1963, was especially hard. I think it was then that Diane wrote about hearing “My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music.” She said “I remembered that you liked that song. I cried, Lucille.” A touching message from a sentimental young sister back home.
Will it ever stop snowing, over 9" now, but no wind which we are glad of. The evergreens in the back yard are heavily loaded and just beautiful! I know ND has much more snow than we have, Clay mentioned having to move the cars in the lot for snow removal and brushing off all the cars, lots of work. Hoping that Farm Girl and family get to fly out tomorrow. Jenn goes to see an in-patient tomorrow, will take a small gift, not only because it's Christmas Day but that the unwrapping will be therapeutic, this OT is always thinking! No.1 son will spend Christmas in Seattle with friends. Lu, I don't know how you remember all that stuff!!! Christmas memory--there were back stairs down to the kitchen at the first Anthon farm. The stairway was Mom's storage place for extra goodies. We would sneak down to take some candy esp. the hard kind-- ribbons, jelly filled, etc. Happy Holidays to All
I still think of you, Lu, whenever I hear 'My Favorite Things'. J and J even beat me to it and say, "That's Aunt Lu's favorite song". I chose that as the thematic unit for the K November curriculum. We all played the song in our classrooms, made a list of things mentioned to test listening ability, and the students took turns bringing 4-5 favorite things to share. They had to write at least a sentence about each thing. The parents all wrote something, too! We had other activities, also. Seems the holiday times are when I miss the classroom most.
Lucille, When I was a junior high student at A-O, a school nurse, during a routine screening, asked me if I bit my nails. I lied and said, "No". I felt so guilty about lying to her that I never bit them again!
