Mom's Birthday : )

Today is mom's birthday. Whenever I think about mom, two things pop into my mind right away. She often said "dishes smishes"...I find myself saying that to "my kids" whenever we have a lot of dishes. Funny how that momerism has become part of my vocabulary. I also think about the time we were visiting her in Anthon, and she was trying to place a long distance call (I think to Bev). She got really irritated at the operator...about as mad as I've ever seen her! It was funny! What funny "mom" memories to do have?

PS...Yes, I realize that I used the word "funny" three times in this post. I'm in a funny mood (just spent the last two hours shopping for our Halloween party tomorrow.)

PSS...Now I'm up to five! : )

  1. I remember two different times: one was when I was staying with Mom one week-end in Anthon. I was teasing her about watching Lawrence Welk and asked her what was so fascinating? She asked if I had ever learned to polka, got up from her lift chair, did a little dance, and laughing, sat back down. We both giggled for awhile. I don't remember if I asked if she and Dad ever danced, does anyone else know? Two, was whenever we played cards while week-ending at Anthon. She always won, even when she had a whole handful of cards. We always gave her a bad time and she laughed at us every time.

  2. My favorite "funny" memory is of Jaime and Derek dressing up and dancing and how hard Grandma laughed! They were hilarious!!

  3. Owly Lady, You're right...since she was usually so reserved, mom's ability to surprise us with random silliness is definitely memorable. I had forgotten that she was so good at card playing...did anyone in the family inherit her winning ways at cards?

  4. Hey Jenn! Jaime and I were just reminiscing about that day...were we celebrating R and L's anniversary? I think that J and D can do a repeat performance next June. : )
