Men in touch with their feminine side

Tonight, I spent a couple of hours with Tyler while Jaime and Aaron went to a birthday party.
My drives to and from Denver are usually interesting; tonight's drive was no exception. As I drove through downtown Waterloo, I spotted two men on a street corner. One was dressed like a fairy (complete with a wand). The other was wearing what looked like his mother's old nightgown. Halloween weekend and the crazies are out! Anyway, I think they were dressed up for Halloween (in downtown Waterloo, you never know!!!).

Response/Question for yesterday's Jeopardy clue:
What Halloween costumes showed up today for our Halloween party???

  1. Sheryl, your multiple-choice was RATher hard. (You left out “become a rugrats expert,” but you’re one already.) Since you said a Nov. topic would be FOOD, I’m guessing e) ratatouille.

Noticing wet plates in the cupboard, Mom would say, “Girls, the dishes are weeping.” Remember that? We weren’t always too careful about drying. Maybe the dishtowels weren’t v. absorbent —? More likely we girls weren’t giving the job our all.

Some of Mom’s sayings that have influenced my life & that I quote all the time:
“If you sing before breakfast you’ll cry before supper.”
“It’s the hours of sleep before midnight that count.”
“What you say you won’t do is what you end up doing.”

Mom was a card shark for sure. Playing rummy, she’d soon have a huge fan of cards in her hand while her face conveyed nothing. Then, just as someone was about to go out, she’d lay down all her cards, in sets of 3 or more. Winning, with a chuckle & a grin. = )

At our house in L.A., Mom & Dad would get sleepy after supper. No wonder: it was 2 hours later in Iowa. But if someone said “Let’s play cards,” they’d both perk right up. Wide awake & eager for the deal!

Yes, that uproarious skit by Jaime & Derek was for our 25th anniversary, at Mom’s. It was one of the funniest things I’ve ever, ever seen. Written & directed by Sheryl; keyboard accompaniment (Flintstones theme) by Adam. Someone (Darold?) made a video. One of the delights: Bev was holding a fly swatter & while she laughed she hit her knee with it. —Darold should bring that video to the reunion.

Didn’t mean to go on & on. But everything u guys write abt makes me want to chime in. & I had to wait till Maryann was here to help me enter my comment.
